About UsI'm a semi-retired Australian expat living in Malaysia since 2010 with my husband; who is a helicopter pilot and travels a great deal. We have spent 2years supervising the building of our villa on Langkawi and we finally moved in November 2012. As with any new building, there is much work to do to soften the landscape with lush tropical plants and make this our home.
Our children both live and work in Australia still but our fur-kids came with us. Ruban our standard long-haired Dachshund, is very much part of the family and, once he has met you, he will welcome you into our home. |
Ruban is going blind so he'll always bark when he sees someone but, being a true hound, once he knows your smell you will always be welcomed home. He is intelligent and knows exactly how to communicate and manipulate me into giving him his daily bone earlier than he should get it.
Ruban adds a great degree of security to both myself and the villa. As a hound, his keen nose will pick up the tiniest waft of a strange smell and he has already stopped monkeys from entering the property several times.
Kitty and Ginger are typical Malaysian cats. I have never come across cats that crave human company like these 2 do. Both arrived unexpectedly and took up residence like only a cat can do

Who We Are |
I am an independent person which has been cultivated by our rather nomadic past. Through necessity and the experience of constant moving of family and household while my husband was in the Australian military I was forced to become flexible, independent and resourceful. This has become extremely useful in moving to Malaysia and establishing ourselves on Langkawi. I enjoy and get great satisfaction out of helping and assisting people. This is why I enjoy having guests stay with us regularly. Providing assistance and sharing experiences and knowledge of the island and its features.
My husband is a practical person who enjoys working with his hands and is a bit of a handyman. This has proven useful here on Langkawi when rings need doing around the house. It is always an adventure to try and locate hardware items to repair things that break around the house on Langkawi. |
Our History |
After 20yrs of a somewhat nomadic existence in the Australian military which saw us spend some time in many parts of Australia and some extended separations while my husband did overseas extended deployments, we finally settled down in far north Queensland in Cairns. We spent 15yrs there while my husband pursued a civil career flying helicopters and running his own businesses. These included aviation support businesses, landscaping and earthmoving using mini loaders while he continued fling helicopters in various capacities.
I returned to the workforce in bookkeeping and office administration. I ran my own business for some time and also for different organisations including government sponsored organisations. During this same time, both my husband and I also ran a business of property development in the Cairns area which specialised in the construction and sale of residential properties. In 2010 after the kids left school, we decided to relocate from Cairns/Australia to Malaysia for various reasons. We moved to Langkawi in order to supervise the building of our Villa, Rumah Singa. After our experiences with property in Australia, we were reluctant to rely on or trust the developer by himself to deliver a product that was promised in the glossy brochure. This turned out to be a very smart decision as we subsequently found out. |
